BMW: i8

It’s the end of the line for BMW’s hybrid sports car, the i8. Along with the i3, it kickstarted BMW’s electrified sub-brand — one that will soon bring new EVs to the market. As the Bavarian automaker built just over 20,000 i8s, it’s still the top-selling plug-in sports car, for what that’s worth given the relatively small segment. Mating a three-cylinder turbocharged engine to an electric motor made an interesting combination, though BMW is moving on to its next generation of EVs.

With the iNext and i4 just around the corner, we’ll see how the BMW i brand continues into the next decade. Word has it a new i8 may come along, though the automaker made no official comment on that earlier this year.
