Hyundai: Elantra GT

As Hyundai revamps its lineup, the only casualty we’re seeing this year is the Elantra GT hatchback. This was sort of a “warm hatch” alternative to something like a Golf GTI, packing a 201 horsepower turbocharged engine. With the new Elantra, though, the automaker decided to stick to sedans, including the hot upcoming Elantra N.

Why? This decision mostly comes down to the Veloster. It offers a turbo hatchback if that’s what you want, and it brings a bit more character to the table for good measure. Hyundai’s quirky hatch doesn’t have quite as large a customer base as the Elantra, but it can pull in the sort of enthusiasts who may have considered this car in the first place. The Veloster N also offers a hatchback alternative to the Elantra, so removing this model prevents Hyundai from competing with itself for the same buyers.
