Covering 2011 – 2019 Explorer SUVs, Ford issued a recall to address trim that might fly off.

This recall, which covers Ford Explorers from MY 2011 through 2019, includes nearly 1.9 million vehicles. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) posted recall 24V-031. It states that “Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2019 Explorer vehicles. The A-pillar trim retention clips may not be properly engaged, allowing the trim to detach.”

This recall comes after an investigation into the problem last January. The NHTSA received several complaints which led to the investigation.

Dealer technicians will install remedy trim components with extra adhesive, free of charge. They should also conduct a thorough investigation to ensure all the retaining clips are properly engaged so the A-pillar pieces don’t come off again, according to what Ford told the NHTSA.

Letters informing owners of the risk will be mailed out March 13, 2024. Ford dealers will inspect the A-pillar trim and replace components as needed. Adhesive may be added as well. This will be free of charge, at most dealerships. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S02. According to the automaker, a second letter may be mailed once a full remedy is produced.

Owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov for additional information.
