The Chevrolet Trax took the top spot in subcompact crossover sales, but the Jeep Renegade’s sales may be starting to rebound.
The Renegade may have only had the third highest sales in the subcompact crossover segment for October, but it had one of the highest increases in sales since September.
The Renegade sold 7,242 vehicles in October, or a 6.9 percent increase over September’s figures of 6,776, sales figures showed. The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was behind the Renegade in terms of most sales from September to October with a 4.8 percent increase. Mitsubishi sold 2,694 Outlander Sports in October compared to 2,570 in September.
The Trax once again remained the top seller in the subcompact crossover market in October with 8,678 vehicles sold, or a 1.8 percent increase from September’s figures of 8,526, sales figures showed.
Coming in second place was the Subaru Crosstrek with 8,367 vehicles sold for October, or a 1.3 percent increase from September’s figures of 8,261. The Crosstrek also remained in the number two position for October.
Other subcompact crossovers saw a decrease in sales over September and October. The Nissan Juke saw a 9.4 percent decrease, selling 858 for October compared to 947 in September.
The MINI Countryman saw an 8.7 percent decrease with 941 vehicles sold in October compared to 1,031 in September, sales figures showed.
The Fiat 500X saw a 6.7 percent decrease with 783 vehicles sold in October compared to 839 in September.
Honda’s HR-V also saw a slip in sales with 3.8 percent fewer for October with 6,596 vehicles sold compared to September’s 6,853. However, when looking at sales in October 2015 and October 2016, the HR-V actually saw a 46.5 percent increase when comparing those two months.
Both the Nissan Juke and the Fiat 500X saw double digit decreases when comparing sales figures from October 2015 and October 2016. The Juke saw a 52.4 percent decrease while the Fiat 500X had a 61 percent decrease, sales figures showed.
The only other vehicle to see a double-digit increase when comparing October 2015 and October 2016 figures besides the HR-V was the Crosstrek, which has a 14.4 percent increase.
When looking at overall year to date sales for 2015 to 2016, there were several subcompact crossovers that saw huge increases. The Mazda CX-3, which sold 1,550 vehicles in October 2016, had a year-to-date increase of 354.9 percent; the HR-V had a year-to-date increase of 92.3 percent; and the Renegade had a year-to-date increase of 90 percent, sales figures showed.
