Everything is not as rosy in the compact sedan segment. While pickup trucks and crossovers are selling red hot, the smaller sedans do not show the wild sales growth. Yes, the leading Toyota Corolla grew an impressive 12.3%, Chevy Cruze grew by 10.0%, and the Nissan Sentra smashed last year’s results by 41.9%. Many other big players declined. Honda Civic shrank a little and missed the number one position by just over 13,000 units. Hyundai Elantra and Ford Focus saw event bigger declines. It will be interesting to see if the refreshed Focus can turn the momentum and overtake the Elantra for fourth this year.
The Volkswagen Jetta, Mazda3, and Dodge Dart were sold approximately the same number as the prior year.
