Chevy Camaro is the best selling pony car in 2014. It sold 6,628 coupes and convertibles in December 2014, which represented a 32.2% improvement over December of 2013. Don’t discount the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger.
The 2015 Mustang is all new and represents a shift towards independent rear suspension. It’s also the first to introduce a modern turbocharged four-cylinder engine into the segment. The Mustang outsold the Camaro by a big margin in December. It sold 9,511 cars, which is a 66.1% improvement over December of 2013. The Mustang can catch and overtake the Camaro quickly, if this trend continues. Interestingly, both grew at the same rate in 2014 (7.1%).
The refreshed 2015 Dodge Challenger sold 4,938 coupes in December and grew the most in December at 72.0%. The Challenger still does not offer a convertible, and it has a fairly large gap to catch the other two. Still, the Challenger will likely have a successful 2015.
