Editor’s note: Emme Hall is a self-professed FanGalof the 2016 Mazda MX-5. She owns MX-5s and has waited for this new model with some trepidation. Here are a collection of her thoughts (her ‘take‘) regarding the 2016 Mazda MX-5. Lucky for Mazda, the design pleases her. Check out here personal accounting of her thoughts regarding this newest of Miatas!

Well, I can now die a happy gal. Mazda did not mess up the fourth generation 2016 Mazda MX-5. Phew!  Full disclosure, I have owned three Miatas in my life: a 1990 NA, 2001 NB, and now a 2004 NB Mazdaspeed. This is my car!

I’ve been apprehensive about the 2016. I’ve never been a fan of the third generation Miata. I’ve always thought it was too heavy and bulbous looking, almost like it threw up in it’s own mouth.

Mazda has not released any specs, but just visually this 2016 model has the look of a much smaller, much more nimble car than it’s predecessor. Let’s hope it harkens back to the first generation, which was barely a car in terms of weight.

The 2016 utilizes SkyActiv Technology. The engine, transmission, and chassis are all engineered to be lighter and more efficient, while still giving improved responsiveness. The SkyActiv technology increases fuel efficiency while increasing engine output. The engine is probably a 2.0L 4-cylinder, and the internet is awash in talk of a turbo. Again, Mazda has not released the specifications, so that is still speculation.

I am very happy with the evolution to this 2016 model. I love the new rear, with the sharp spikes coming off the traditionally oblong tail lights and the bumper incorporated right into the body.

And can we talk about the front? I really love how low the hood is and it’s nice to see that Mazda has joined the 21st century with LED lights. All models will come with a black header, which emphasizes the new lower stance. The grille opening still leans on the side of happy, but really I’m okay with that. The Miata is guaranteed to make you smile, and it’s nice to get a grin in return.

Two mintues later…I looked at the front end again and I just love it. I love how the lower hood line really pulls up the front fenders. I love the smaller headlights. I love the new fog lights, and I love the line where the hood meets the fender.

We have no information on pricing, fuel efficiency, power ratings, transmission…you know, the good stuff. Hopefully Mazda will release the numbers soon so I can squee with joy.

Whatever the numbers, I look forward to driving the little roadster. No word on when the first press drive will be, but you know I will claw my way to the event, regardless of how many fellow journalists I have to scratch to do it!

Check out the debut in this insider TFLcar video.
