2012 Volvo S60 R-Design Video Review: The Swedes build an AWD turbo-charged frieght train

IMG_2784

The 2012 Volvo S60 R-Design is a Swedish all-wheel-drive turbo charged freight train. With 325 Horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, this is one Volvo that will kick you in the butt on a rocket ride to Valhalla.

The R-Design has some lofty cars in its sights such as the Audi S4. But unlike the S60 R-Design, the Audi S4 has a long history of development from a car company that builds race cars for Le Mans.

So how does 2012 Volvo S60 R-Design compare to the Audi, and how does the car steer, drive, and fit a family of four?

We sent a week with Volvo’s newest and fastest car and came away with this video review.

Video: 2012 Hyundai Genesis vs Toyota RAV4 0-60 Mashup

IMG_2773

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis is one of the most powerful new cars that you can buy for under $35,000. But the Toyota RAV4 with the optional 269 horsepower motor is no slouch when it comes to straight-line speed.

The Genesis has 333 HP but a new eight speed automatic transmission and about 500 more pounds to propel.

While the RAV4 had a five speed automatic and all-wheel-drive.

But which one is faster in a 0-60 MPH sprint at 5430 feet above sea level. Watch the Mashup 0-60 video and find out.

And the most stolen new car is….

2009-Audi-A8-Sedan-1

According to the FBI’s statistical arm report the most stolen new car in the country is the Audi A8.

OK, to be precise the Audi S8 had the highest theft rate: 8.81 thefts per 1,000 vehicles produced in 2009…the latest year the government has so far reported these sort of car thefts.

Actually, the most stolen car in 2009 (at least in terms of number of cars stolen) was also the 2009’s best-selling car…the Toyota Camry.

But let’s stick with the highest theft rates. Following the Audi A8, and rounding out the top five, were the following cars:

Would you pay $746,762 for a new Lamborghini Aventador?

Lamborghini_aventador_main_1jpg_560x420

If you live in America the price for Lamborghini’s new 700 HP supercar is a mere $387,000 but if you live in India expect to pay $746,762.

Lamborghini has just announced that like in THIS recent India Ferrari story, it is also bringing the new Aventador LP 700-4 model to India.

Lamborghini launched the Aventador earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show (see below) and now has already 1,500 orders for the supercar which means that potential customers have to wait up to 18 months for their dream car.

Will Ford build the Chihuahua-on-crack Ford Fiesta ST?

FiestaSTConcept-1

I always thought the new Ford Fiesta was a bit underpowered. It is a great platform with mighty good grip, but the squirrels running under the hood need a shot of caffeine. Ford knows this.

Floating through various magazines, photos and sketches of a partially disguised, rather zippy Fiesta carving up tracks abound. Ford has many details about the Ford Fiesta ST “concept,” all of which are yet to be production confirmed (unlike the Focus ST – which is a “go”).

No one, not the powerful Volkswagen GTI, the meaty John Works Mini Cooper or the swift Honda Civic SI can match the savage Mazdaspeed3. It cranks out 263 horsepower and 280 lbs-feet of torque – through the front wheels. It is the mightiest of all performance front-wheel drive cars.

Ford is on a performance freak-out and is ready to take the fight to Mazda. Witness the introduction of the 2012 Ford Focus ST. This is a full blown performance version of the already excellent Ford Focus. Judging by Fords FWD performance past, they are ready to take on Mazda.

A Romantic Ride in Croatia in the new 2012 Bentley Continental GTC

To understand the new 2012 Bentley Continental GTC first you must make a trip to the Body Assembly Hall at Crewe, England, the factory where these magnificent automobiles are handcrafted. Bentley Motor Cars, in operation since 1919, started off with the 1920 2 Litre, a vehicle which went on to win the Le Mans in 1924. “Bentley’s have been making beautiful history ever since,” explained our guide, Slim, who has been employed with Bentley for 40 years.

True to Bentley style, the facility, which has 4226 employees that help produce around 150 cars a week, maintains the standards that have been the company’s benchmark. “We still do clay modeling and we still use the human ear to detect engine sounds,” Slim explained.

“Last year we had 8,000 visitors to this site. And most people say that Bentleys are not expensive enough after seeing this process,” he quipped. Truth is, sales are up. In 2010, sales were up 11%, to 5,117, over the previous year’s sales of 4,616. In 2011, global year-to-date sales are up 33% to 5,379 from 4,056.
