Well folks, it looks like there’s another set of red-and-blues to memorize in your rearview.  Joining the ranks of the venerable Ford Crown Victoria, Taurus and Explorer, the blue oval has just teased its next-gen Ford Police Interceptor ahead of its debut next week at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.

While it’s almost certain that manufacturers aren’t making a boatload of profit on police cruisers, they’re still big business, as there’s certainly no shortage of municipalities out there.  This is echoed by the fact that Chevrolet and Dodge are hot on Ford’s tail, having introduced and updated police-fleet-ready models of their own.

Not much is known about the new Ford Police Interceptor at this point, except that it appears to be based on the refreshed 2016 Ford Explorer.  The Explorer’s current EcoBoost V6 engine and all-wheel-drive seem well-suited to law enforcement agencies in most any climate and locale.  What isn’t certain is whether the boosted V6 will be replaced with the 2.3-L EcoBoost four cylinder found in the 2015 Ford Mustang, 2016 Ford Focus RS, and others.

What we do know is that the next-gen Ford Police Interceptor will be built in Chicago, and is said to “get even better with more high-tech features.”  Stay tuned to TFLcar.com for live coverage of the Ford Police Interceptor’s debut from the Chicago Auto Show on Feb. 12.
