2012 BMW 650i X-Drive video review: The Ultimate German Grand Touring Machine

IMG_2895

The all new 2012 BMW 650i X-Drive is a true stunner.

The newly redesigned BMW GT is now firm, fit and sexy.

With a 400 HP Twin Turbo V8 the  BMW 650i is also fast and fun to drive. But than again a car that can cost as much as $100,000 better be very special.

We recently had the chance to test drive this newest German autobahn burner to see how it stacks up to cars like the Jaguar XK. However when equipped with BMW’s all-wheel X-Drive, like our test car, the 2012 650i really has no competition.

Check out this first drive review as we see just how fast the BMW 650i really is at altitude.

When most car enthusiasts hear the word “Thunderbird”, the likely image that comes to mind is the original stylish 1955 legend from FoMoCo with its long hood and trunk, tail fins, and half hidden rear wheels. There is no question that the 1st generation Thunderbird is a collectible. Almost every classic car auction will have at least one example of meticulously restored Thunderbird selling for top dollar.

Video: 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport vs Mercedes-Benz E350 vs BMW 535i race track review

LexusFsport

The new 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport is taking direct aim at both the new Mercedes-Benz E350 and the new BMW 535i.

We recently had a chance to drive all three cars on the race track in Las Vegas to compare how well the newest and perhaps sexiest Lexus does against these two very well regarded and long established German luxury performance sedans.

The German cars have a long tradition of performance and luxury while the Lexus is the relative newcomer to the group.

But 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport has now been completely reworked to sharp performance point.

Check out this first drive review of the 2013  Lexus GS 350 F Sport as we test all three cars head to head.

Review: The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 is what the SLK should have been from the start

2012-Mercedes-Benz-SLK350-Front-Body-View

The new-generation SLK remains small, with just a 95.7-inch wheelbase. But it has more aggressive styling for a sexier, more masculine look and continues with its fast-acting retractable hardtop. Even the exhaust outlets are artfully shaped.

The 3,397-pound SLK350 has a solid feel—top up or down. But Mercedes stuck its plastic three-pointed star emblem right up front in the center of the grille, where it can be easily damaged.

The first Mercedes-Benz SLK, which I drove in Italy at a media preview in the late 1980s, was a bore. It had terribly plain styling and modest performance. It was at least some fun with a manual gearbox, but that wasn’t even initially offered in America.

Video: 2012 Lexus LFA race track test ride

LFA

Lexus plans to only build 500 LFA supercars, and of those 500 less than 200 will end up in American garages.

At the Las Vegas Motor Speedway we recently had a chance to go for a ride in a shiny black 2012 LFA to sort of see just how fast and nimble Toyota’s newest super car is when put to the test.

At over $350,000, the LFA is by no means inexpensive but when compared to other supercars like the $650,000 Ferrari Enzo, some people believe the the LFA is a crazy fast and crazy cool bargain.

However when compared to, for instance, the Nissan GT-R other people would argue that it is just too expensive for what you get.

We can start by telling you that the car’s engine note is pure joy.

Check it out in this 2012 Lexus LFA race track test ride video below.

Video review: the 2013 Lexus GS 450h is no longer the dragster of the hybrid car world

IMG_2890

The new 2013 Lexus GS 450h Hybrid is no longer the speedy dragster of the hybrid world. Instead the newest Lexus hybrid is all grown up and ready for a serious job like taking you and your family to work or play.

The newest and most fuel efficient GS now gets a combined 31 MPG. But is that enough to take on the German competition like the diesel version of the BMW 5 series Mercedes-Benz E class and the Audi A6.

We recently had a chance to take the green GS for a first drive spin around the Las Vegas desert to find out if the new 2012 Lexus GS 450h Hybrid is ready to take on  the German competition.

Check out the first drive video review below.
