Fiat launches new second gen small pick-up in Europe but America…no Strada for you

2012-Fiat-Strada-3

Car manufacturers have almost completely given up on selling small trucks in America.

Even Ford has said goodbye to the segment by discontinuing the Ford Ranger in the U.S. while at the same time introducing the new Ford Ranger Wildtrak pick-up in Europe (see video below).

Which only leaves Nissan and Toyota selling so called “small” pick-ups in the U.S. market.

Of course European buyers have a plethora of new small trucks to choose from including this new Fiat Strada. Built in Brazil Italian buyers will have three flavors of new Strada they can purchase including the:

– Working

– Trekking

– Adventure

The Starda will come in three body styles including a:

– short cab

– long cab and

– four-seater crew cab.

Prices in Italy will start at $16,700 for the Working Single Cab model all the way to $20,700 for the top of the line Adventure Crew Cab.

Fiat owns Chrysler so could the Strada come to America? Probably not as most car makers don’t believe that small pick-ups can be profitable in the U.S. where they believe buyers prefer full-sized pick-ups.

We disagree and (Hint Hint) we think an affordable truly small pick-ups like the Strada or the new Ford Ranger Wildtrak would sell well if given the chance.
