Subaru rolled out celebrations of the WRX’s 25th anniversary and the BRZ’s 15th.
This past weekend’s Boxerfest rolled out not one, but two special editions of Subaru’s long-running WRX and BRZ sports cars. The automaker teased the news just before the debut, though now we know exactly what we’re looking at: the 2027 Subaru WRX GD25 and the BRZ ZC15.
You likely put together from the photo above that, fundamentally, they’re still the same cars you already know and love. The names are the biggest clue-in to their intentions here, since the US-market WRX is officially 25 years old and the BRZ just turned 15. The ‘GD’ refers to the original launch generation of the WRX over here (the first 1992-2001 generation wasn’t officially sold in America), while the ‘ZC’ naturally nods toward the first-generation of the BRZ, which rolled out back in 2012.
Starting with the WRX, Subaru brings some classic cues from the GD generation, which comprised the Bugeye as well as the facelifted Blobeye and eventually the Hawkeye (that one is my personal favorite of the bunch). To that end, you get the World Rally Blue paint and 19-inch gold wheels. Out back, you get an appropriately huge carbon fiber wing used on Travis Pastrana’s ARA25L rally car. So, while it’s still not a full-on STI, at least that throws enthusiasts a bone, as does the Brembo brakes with gold calipers and the sticker Bridgestone Potenza S007 ummer tires.
Under the hood, you get a strut tower brace and a stiffer suspension setup, but no more grunt than the stock 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. For this limited edition, Subaru is at least throwing in the STI short-shifter and shift knob for the 6-speed manual transmission. As it’s based on the tS, you further get Recaro seats with black Ultrasuede inserts and red stitching.
Then there’s the BRZ ZC15. Here, you get Ceramic White paint with bronze wheels, with bronze decals and red-painted brake calipers. The color scheme is a throwback to 2020’s BRZ tS, while bringing you the same 228-horsepower Boxer engine you get in the current generation. You get a black decklid spoiler out back, though it’s not as aggressive as the WRX, and a flexible V-bar under the hood. Like the WRX, the BRZ ZC15 comes to the party with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Subaru plans on limiting the WRX GD25 to just 350 units, and each of those will arrive next summer. The BRZ ZC15, for its part, is even more restricted (just 300 units), but is coming a little sooner in the early part of 2027.
