Ford is rolling out a new matte clear film option this summer to protect your Mustang’s paint.
As cool as a matte paint finish looks, it can wind up being a total nightmare to maintain. That is Ford’s premise, at least, in offering this new Matte Clear Film option for its 2024 Mustang S650 models. Get it, and you’ll not only land a satin-finish matte look for any of the Mustang’s colors, but it doubles as paint protection against all the harsh elements owners have to deal with.
“Mustang customers have an all-new way to personalize their ride,” Ford says, “with the car’s first-ever factory Matte Clear Film, giving Mustang a stylish satin-like finish while also protecting the car’s paint.” The automaker also touts this $5,995 option as the best route, since it brings the same 3-year/36,000-mile factory warranty as the car itself.
There is a catch to consider, though, other than the price. This film, developed with PPG, is not available with any of the Mustang’s other graphics packages. So that means no stripes and no special graphics packages, including for the Dark Horse. The California Special is excluded from the available models to which you can add the matte film option, since it’s mainly about the graphics package in the first place.
Orders for Ford’s new paint film option will open tomorrow, February 27, for the coupes first. You will eventually be able to order the option for a Mustang convertible, but Ford says that will not be available until later this year. The first deliveries of cars with the film should roll out around June.
