The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace is the classic British brand’s foray into the luxury crossover segment. Based on the same architecture as the XF and F-Type, the F-Pace competes directly with cars like the Lexus RX, Porsche Macan and BMW X5.
TFLcar’s Roman Mica was in Aspen to test drive the new F-Pace. Is it a worthy contender in the ultra-hot crossover segment?
Under the hood, the F-Pace has the credentials. The 3.0-liter, supercharged V-6 makes 340 horsepower, enough to propel the big crossover with alacrity. While the engine is shared among the entire Jaguar/Land Rover range, the rest of the car is all Jaguar, sharing nothing with any Land Rover SUV despite appealing to the same buyer.
The F-Pace is made of about 81 percent aluminum to keep weight down. That, and the all-wheel-drive system that sends about 90 percent of the torque to the rear puts the F-Pace towards the sportier end of the luxury crossover spectrum. That RWD bias means that the F-Pace can be drifted, but unfortunately Roman couldn’t test out that feature.
The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace starts at around $41,000 up to $56,000 for the Sport edition. So will the new F-Pace be able to compete with the Porsche, BMW and Lexus, and can it increase Jaguar’s sales in America? Watch the full video above to find out.
