Mad Max Fury Road 4

Mad Max:Fury Road is the fourth movie in the franchise. Shot without Mel Gibson, Mad Max: Fury Road looks like a cross between a reboot and (possibly) a sequel in some way. Mad Max (1979), Mad Max II/Mad Max: The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985) brought the post apocalyptic universe to millions and catapulted Mel Gibson into super-stardom. This was the gravy train baby and a multitude of wanna-be Mad Max films followed the trend started by filmmaker George Miller.

All of a sudden – the train stopped… literally (watch the end of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome for that reference). Years of awesomeness went off the rails at about the same time Tina Turner said goodbye to the Raggedy Man. I’m not a film expert, but I know the Mad Max franchise was making plenty of dough. If one of you know why they stopped everything after Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome – drop me a line.

Mad Max Fury Road 3

It’s hard to say how nearly three decades of no Mad Max will effect this latest addition to the franchise. Judging from what I’ve seen and heard from the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con regarding the subject, things look ducky. “It’s been 35 years since the Aussie filmmaker started the franchise with Mel Gibson as the iconic post-apocalyptic road warrior, the cult fave who last hit screens in 1985′s threequel Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. (One big difference in shooting the first movie and shooting this one? “It took over a week before we saw our dailies – now you see it immediately.”) Fury Road is led by Tom Hardy as loner Mad Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa, and Miller said it lies closer in spirit to the second film.” – – Deadline.com

Definitely feeling the Mad Max II/Road Warrior vibe on this one. Prepare for awesomeness… Mad Max: Fury Road hits theaters on May 15th, 2015.
