The new Jaguar F-Type brings sexy to Paris

Feast your eyes on the all new Jaguar F-Type, destine to be a new direction for Jaguar.

This is a leaked photo (via Motor Authority on Facebook) preceding the Paris Motor Show and I added C-X16 photos which appear to be similar to what the F-Type  looks like. Nothing official has been released, but we know a few things.

Here are three hings we (think) know about the upcoming Jaguar F-Type:

  1. It’s sexy. Not in a classic Sophia Loren way, but more of a modern Halle Berry sort of way. It’s lean, tight and curvaceous without being overwrought.  The all aluminum F-Type is based on the XK’s bones and it should be very light – like Porsche Boxster light – perhaps under 3,000 lbs.
  2. There should be two V6s available. Jaguar lobbed off two cylinders of its 5-liter V8, added a Toots-type supercharger while keeping the 5-liter’s direct injection. They are said to put out 340 and 380 horsepower. Jaguar is working on powerful 4-cylinders, perhaps in 2015, and a (possible) hybrid. We’ll keep our eye on that one.
  3. A ZF eight-speed automatic with paddle flippers (yes, I said “paddle flippers”) is supposed to be the only transmission available. Tha’st a pity, we though all of Jaguar’s bluster about returning to sports cars would enable them to give driving enthusiasts something more to play with. Bummer.

What a looker. If this is indeed what the Jaguar F-Type, we’re in for a lovely ride.
Jaguar needs a real volume seller and their current crop of vehicles, despite being pretty damn good, are not selling like gangbusters. The new all-wheel drive sedans should grease the wheels of sales to a point, but an entry level sports car may be just the ticket for Jaguar’s star to rise. Will the Jaguar F-Type deliver? Well, it’s looks certainly push that notion in the right direction.
