Toyota is back in the news again with yet another recall.

This time the Japanese car maker is recalling 1.7 million cars world wide for fuel leak problems.

The recall affects 1.3 million cars that Toyota sold in Japan, but also 255,000 Lexus branded cars here in the U.S. and 10,000 in Europe.

The American cars being recalled are the:

  • 2006-07 Lexus GS300/350 sedans
  • 2006-09 Lexus IS250 sedans
  • 2006-early 2008 Lexus IS350 sedans

The recall is for a pressure sensor that under certain circumstances could vibrate loose and cause a potential fuel leak.

According to published reports the cost of the recall is about $240 million. But while this is not a huge sum for Toyota the long term damage to the brands already tarnished reputation may be more costly than the actual recall.

U.S. owners of the recalled cars will be notified by mail or they can also call 800-255-3987 or visit www.lexus.com/recall.
