Video: The Toyota congressional hearings begin amid new video evidence of unintended acceleration

Toyota_President_Ak_681167a Toyota chief executive Akio Toyoda will apologized on Capitol Hill on Wednesday as the Toyota congressional hearings began today in Washington on what has grown into Toyota's worst crisis in its history.

According to the Detroit Free Press Toyota chief executive Akio Toyoda, in prepared remarks, will apologized to the House Oversight committee and express regret over the death of four people in THIS accident in a Lexus ES350 sedan in Santee, Calif., last year.

"I regret that this has resulted in the safety issues described in the
recalls we face today, and I am deeply sorry for any accidents that
Toyota drivers have experienced," Toyoda will say.

"Especially, I would
like to extend my condolences to the members of the Saylor family, for
the accident in San Diego. I would like to send my prayers again, and I
will do everything in my power to ensure that such a tragedy never
happens again."

The CEO apology comes on the heals of a recent ABC report (see video below) claiming that unintended acceleration is caused not by a mechanical problem as Toyota claims but an electronic flaw in the automaker's engine control unit

However in THIS recent interview Bob Carter, Toyota's  general manager of Toyota Division at Toyota
Motor Sales said the company did not cover up any know electronic issues.

"Toyota has, for the past few years, been expanding its business
rapidly. Quite frankly, I fear the pace at which we have grown may have
been too quick," Toyoda is excepted to say.
