This Is A 1,600 HP Nissan GT-R With A Wing Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Seen Before

Because, you know, downforce

Behind those huge wings, there is a Nissan GT-R in there…somewhere.

It’s a hillclimb car, as if the wings didn’t give that away.

Taking on hillclimb events is not really about out-and-out top speed. Instead, it’s all about downforce for high-speed cornering. We’ve seen plenty of huge-winged hillclimb cars right in our own back yard thanks to the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, but never anything like this. Franco Scribante Racing came up with this Nissan GT-R, and it’s poised to take on South Africa’s Simola Hillclimb in May.

To achieve the sort of downforce you need on a hillclimb event, you need a wing. As you can tell by these photos, this GT-R definitely isn’t lacking on those. The huge wing and diffuser out back are fair enough, but it’s the front that has our collective jaws on the floor. If you need a moment to take the front end of this car in, we don’t blame you.

Holy wings, Batman! And an equally huge diffuser, too.

Once you get past that, however, then you can get into the numbers. The Franco Scribante Nissan GT-R extracts 1,600 horsepower from its 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V6. That’s a whole lot of power, and we can imagine the car’s team has its boost cranked up to eleven. The team partnered with New Zealand-based Dodson Motorsport on the build.

Getting back to the wings — sorry, we can’t resist — Franco Scribante Racing did not offer a specific downforce figure. Still, it’s likely massive thanks to those wings scooping up huge lumps of air. Perhaps that will offer a competitive advantage on its first hillclimb event. From the South African event, we may well see this Nissan GT-R charging its way up Pikes Peak in the future.
