Jeep Confirms a New Renegade Is Coming By 2027

This will be the company's affordable EV offering for the US

Jeep laid out its plans through 2027, and this was one of the most important points.

While Jeep’s fortunes largely ride on its most iconic SUVs, namely the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee, we are still due some new models at the smaller end of the brand’s lineup. During a shareholder presentation this week, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa revealed the automaker’s plans over the next three years, which confirms its earlier reported $25,000 electric SUV as the new Renegade.

This revelation explains why North America did not wind up getting the electric Avenger, for a start, and it also brings a far more approachable option to the lineup against the sleek, but expensive Wagoneer S. According to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, this new electric Renegade will use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, likely integrating into its STLA Small platform that’s billed on efficiency, rather than more premium offerings or outright performance.

Jeep’s choice to use the Renegade name is an interesting one, as the first generation was a fairly popular offering in both North America and Europe. Across the nine years of its first generation in the US, Renegade sales clocked in around half a million units.

The company isn’t just stopping with one new model, either. The presentation also revealed a new compact Compass is on the way, as well as a new “mainstream UV” offering that will sit in the same midsize segment as the Wagoneer S and the Recon. This is most likely the new Cherokee, though it’s unclear whether Jeep still plans to use that name too, and we’ve yet to see what this new model will actually look like. (The same story goes for the Renegade — all we have at the moment is the name).

As for the rest of Jeep’s lineup, we can more or less expect mid-cycle refreshes up and down the stack, with the exception of the brand-new Wagoneer S. That means refreshed Wrangler and Gladiator models, as well as a revamped Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee. By 2027, Jeep will have five plug-in hybrid “4xe” models, as well as a range-extended vehicle similar to the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, then the fully electric Renegade. Jeep also expects to debut a total of six new EVs (including the Renegade), two of which will emerge in 2025.
