Technology video review: The 2012 6.4-Liter HEMI SRT V8 engine exposed

Hemi

The 2012 6.4-Liter HEMI SRT V8 engine is the monster power plant at the heart of the all new Charger, Challenger, 300, and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 cars.

For 2012 Chrysler increase the engine’s displacement from 6.1 liters to 6.4 liters.

Check how the new 6.4L HEMI produced 470 HP in this Insider Interview with Gary Rogers, the new engines Chrysler chief engineer.

Video review: Is the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 road, track and Autobahn worthy?

JP012_007GCL

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is capable of over 160 MPH.

It has a 465 HP HEMI 6.4L engine, massive Brembo brakes, all-wheel-drive, 20 inch wheels, and unlike the previous model of this top dog Jeep it can even tow your jet ski. In fact it can tow up to 5000 pounds.

The one thing the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is not however is Trail Rated. This fastest and most powerful of all Jeeps is more at home on the track than on the Rubicon Trail.

But just because it can carve corners doesn’t mean that it is cool and comfortable on the highway or at much higher speeds on the autobahn worthy?

We recently had the chance to drive the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 on both the road and the track and we can report that it is certainly in a class all of its own.

Check out the first drive video review to see how the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 tackles both the track, road and highway.

Video review: Is the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 a budget BMW M5?

DG012_001CHL

The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 will take you and your family around the race track or perhaps across Germany on the autobahn at 175 miles an hour.

That’s because the 6.4L Hemi V8 is good for 465HP and 465 pound feet-of-torque. That’s a boatload of power and torque.

The Charger is certainly the least expensive car of some of the fastest sedans on the market today.

But how does the fastest ever Charger SRT8 compare to cars like the BMW M5 and the Cadillac CTS-V sedan? At an estimated base price of $54,000.

Check out the first drive video review below and find out as we take the 2012 Charger SRT8 for a first drive review.

Busted: Chrysler assembly plant workers caught drinking and smoking on video over lunch again

Chrysler

As you may recall from THIS story it was just about 10 months ago that a Detroit Fox news TV station busted a group of Chrysler employees partying, smoking weed, and drinking over their lunch break.

In total 13 Chrysler employees were fired over the incident and the company suffered a significant public relations black eye over the fallout.

Today it’s the same story but a different assembly plant. This time the same Detroit Fox News station went to the parking lot of the local UAW hall near the Jefferson North Plant in Detroit at busted more Chrysler workers drinking and smoking on their lunch break, and even before their shift.

The new station says it got the news tip from other workers at the Chrysler plant who were afraid of working with drunk and unsafe employees.

Scott Garberding, the automaker’s Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, says, “The employees that we identify, as soon as we understand who they are, will be suspended indefinitely without pay and anybody else involved will be dealt with swiftly. It’s very frustrating to us, we take it very seriously.”

2012 Scion iQ to start at $15,995…batteries not included

IMG_1276

Scion has just announced the very tiny 2012 iQ will start at $15,995.

The smallest Scion will be launched in phases around the U.S. with the West Coast getting the car first and the Midwest last.

BTW: Why is it that the Midwest is always left out in the cold on these phased car intros? Could it be the cold, or don't car makers believe that people in cities like Chicago have an interest in their newest products.
