SEATTLE—The reasonably priced second-generation 2012 Nissan Versa Sedan offers good value. While lively, it’s no thrill. It just provides solid basic, comfortable transportation.

Nissan is mainly aiming the new Versa Sedan at single 25-29-year-old  college graduates with no children. However, Nissan said at a preview of the car in Seattle that the new car also should appeal to older folks on budgets who want a roomy, economical compact auto.

The front-drive Versa looks more aerodynamic than distinctive. But it has clever, more-efficient packaging.

Is the closing of Borders Books another nail is coffin of car buff book culture?

Borders

I Read the News Today Oh Boy

I just saw it, as reported in the Wall Street Journal; Borders Books and Music is liquidating. Closing up shop. Disappearing. All the stores will be gone by September.

This hurts. It’s yet another example of the financial shenanigans that the money people keep perpetrating. The deals that these people actually pull off lead to private jets that fly to private islands. The ones that go bust lead to… the closing of 399 remaining stores, 10,700 people losing their jobs, on top of a first round of store closings, a month or two ago.

For me, it’s also personal. Even though I’m not an employee. Never was one. I don’t know anyone that works at a Borders. I don’t own any stock.

What hurts the most to me is that this means another place where I would escape the drudge, where I would be surrounded by collected books and magazines, on various and sundry topics, not the least of which is all things automotive, from around the world… is soon to be no more.

Video: The Most Insane 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Tire Smoking Burnout Ever

Challenger

How long can a 2012 Dodge Challenger STR8 smoke its tires in what is the longest and most insane 2012 Challenger SRT8 burnout ever?

That’s a good question and the answer is….

But first a little background. The folks at the new SRT division of  Chrysler recently rolled out four new SRT8 cars that all feature the newly revised 470 horsepower HEMI engine.

To demonstrate just how much power the engine can produce they rolled out a brand new 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 and proceeded to smoke the rear tires until they cried uncle.

So how long did the rear tires last?

Look out! Here comes the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 and it’s pissed-off

Ralph Gilles, the new head honcho for the SRT performance brand (think BMW’s M Series, Mercedes Benz’s AMG or Cadillac’s V) is not a subtle guy. SRT is street AND racing technology – they don’t promote street-racing – but I do. He lifted the overall image of Dodge to a serious contender and now he’s pushing all out performance with SRT.

You see, Ralph is a “dude.”

If you had to demonstrate a poster child for Ralph’s SRT brand, it would have to be the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8. It’s a dude’s car. I refer to the type who gets a thrill out of irritation old folk with the snarl of a 470 horsepower, 6.4 liter HEMI V8. Mr. Dude will get pleasure out of smoky burnouts with 470 lbs-feet of torque abusing 20 inch wheels and tires.

Top 10 reasons why the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is a blessed thing

SR012_001JPL

I used to not “get” the concept of road-going SUVs. Yes, I enjoyed driving the BMW X5 M on the track and thrilled at playing with a Ranger Rover Sport on mountain roads – but I still shrugged at the relevance of these types of vehicles. Surly, a lower-slung sports car would be a better platform – right?

Even the amusing original Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 made me question its relevance. I mean, this was an SUV that can’t tow due to its center exiting, dual exhaust. It was a bit flexi on corners. It wasn’t much more to me than a low SUV packing a V8 with all wheel drive that was slightly better at cornering.

Things have changed – halleluiah!

Here are 10 things that make the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee praise worthy of this review:

Watch Top Gear Season Series 17 Episode 4 as Jeremy Clarkson drags the newest Jaguar XKR-S vs. the Nissan GT-R

Top_gear

The Top Gear boys are back again and you can watch the latest series 17 Episode 4 as Jeremy Clarkson drives the latest and most powerful Jaguar ever.

The all new Jaguar XKR-S has over 550 HP and it is built to be fast….very fast

But for less money the Nissan GT-R is even faster.

In this episode of Top Gear Jeremy drags the Jaguar XKR-S vs. Nissan GT-R. He also does some hot laps in both cars before he eventually gives the keys to the Nissan to the Stig.

So does Clarkson like the new Jaguar?

The 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 is a very fast enigma

Full disclosure: Roman Mica (TFLcar.com’s Capo) and I have different opinions on the 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8. He finds it too soft and not very comfortable, while I like its comfy ride and my big ass craves those seats. We both agree, there’s too much road noise from those massive 20 inch wheels and tires.

These were preproduction models, so there may be more sound deadening material for the production models.

For me, the Chrysler 300 SRT8 ticked most of the right boxes.

• Externally, it’s brash, while maintaining some semblance of decorum. It looks even more menacing than before with the LED headlight additions and I like the functional spoiler. It sits very low, but not obnoxiously so.
