Video review: Is the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI a Golf GTI sedan?

The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is back and ready to rumble.

The new VW Jetta GLI comes with Volkswagen’s proven 2.0L turbo-charged engine that produces 200 HP and likes to tear up the tarmac.

Unlike the base Jetta the GLI gets independent rear suspension, sporty body kit, and red stitching on the interior leather plus a soft-touch dashboard, and perhaps more importantly much quicker steering and better handling.

The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI comes paired to either a six-speed manual or VW’s very fast shifting dual clutch DSG automatic.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either transmission as both are fun to drive.

2011 Lexus RX 350 update: a luxury Crossover leader in need of a nip and tuck

There is no doubt that the 2011 Lexus RX 350 is one of the most popular cars in the luxury crossover segment.

When Lexus introduced the car a couple of years ago we reviewed it and took it on a snow covered Colorado dirt road (see video below) to see how it would handle the rough stuff.

OK, ‘rough stuff’ might not be the best words to use, but the Lexus RX 350 took everything that we threw at it in the video review with elegance and ease.

After a week in the 2011 model we still continue to be very impressed by the quality, fit and finish of the Lexus RX 350. We can confidently say that it is the perfect blend of new school crossover all-wheel-drive prowess with the old school luxury.

Video: 2012 Jeep Wrangler V-6 Pentastar tech demo

The 2012 Jeep Wrangler now has a proper 285 horse power V-6 Pentastar engine.

Instead of the old well worn in 3.8L engine, Jeep has updated the vehicle with the lighter aluminum V-6 Pentastar engine. In fact the new engine is not only more powerful, but also gets better gas mileage and weights 33 pound less than the old power-plant.

That all means that the four door Wrangler is now 3 seconds faster from 0 to 60 MPH. Instead of 11.4 seconds to reach 60 MPH the new Wrangler does it in 8.4 seconds.

It also means that the new Wrangler has more power and more importantly more torgue when the going gets rough.

Video: the all new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo gets a big dose of manly testostrone

For 2012 Volkswagen has completely redesigned the iconic Beetle.

The car that built and defined the VW brand is only three generations old but it now comes in three flavors.

Volkswagen plans on introducing a 2.5 Liter base model Beetle, and a 2.0L turbo-charged Beetle. A diesel TDI version will also soon follow.

For 2012 the new Beetle is all grown up and ready for college. Not only is the new Beetle 6 inched longer but it is also 3 inches wider.

The new 2012 Beetle also comes with a new manly design that hope to move the car away from the current mostly female buyer demographic….and yes the small bud vase is now gone. Instead the car has many more go fast parts including a squared off steering wheel and even 19 inch wheels as a option.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo is about 120 pounds lighter than the 2012 VW Golf GTI. Both VW cars share the same 2.0L turbo engine.

So is the 2012 Beetle turbo faster, better and more masculine?

Video: 2012 Volkswagen Golf R versus Golf GTI Drag Race

The 2012 Golf R is the most powerful Golf ever built with a 256 horsepower turbo-charged engine and all-wheel-drive it should cream the 2012 front wheel drive Golf GTI (which puts out only 200 horsepower) in a straight-line drag race.

At Volkswagen’s recent press drive event featuring the brand’s 2012 complete model line-up we had a chance to drive both the 2012 Golf R and the 2012 Glf GTI.

The Golf R comes to America at the start of 2012 with only a 6-speed manual transmission with either 3 for 5 doors. While the Golf GTI remains largely unchanged from 2011 and can be had with both a manual and Volkswagen’s DSG Dual-clutch transmission.

So what do you think happens when we pit the two Golf’s against each other in this impromptu drag race?

The old 3.8L engine was only rated at 202 HP. So that obviously begs the question which Jeep Wrangler  is the faster…the 2011 or the 2012?

2012 Jeep Wrangler Pentastar video review: a faster smoother more powerful classic

The 2012 Jeep Wrangler finally gets the new Chrysler Pentastar V-6 engine and 5 speed automatic or 6 speed manual transmission to not only compete in today’s crowded Crossover and SUV segment, but rule the off-road world.

More power and more torque, better gas mileage, and the same base price.

What’s not to like?

For 2012 the Wrangler with the new 285 HP Pentastar V-6 is has earned a 17/21 mpg city/highway rating from the EPA and it gets a combined 18 mpg city/highway.

The out-going Wrangler with the old 3.8-liter V-6 that was rated for 202 HP and came equipped with either a 4 speed automatic or a 5 speed manual transmission. For 2012 the Jeep Wrangler not only gets the new more powerful and lighter aluminum motor, but more gears making it now a completely modern off and on-road machine.
