Video review: Is the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI a Golf GTI sedan?

The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is back and ready to rumble.

The new VW Jetta GLI comes with Volkswagen’s proven 2.0L turbo-charged engine that produces 200 HP and likes to tear up the tarmac.

Unlike the base Jetta the GLI gets independent rear suspension, sporty body kit, and red stitching on the interior leather plus a soft-touch dashboard, and perhaps more importantly much quicker steering and better handling.

The 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI comes paired to either a six-speed manual or VW’s very fast shifting dual clutch DSG automatic.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either transmission as both are fun to drive.

The Jetta GLI starts at $24,265 with the manual transmission, or you can add $1,100 more and get the slick DSG.

If you want the top of the line Autobahn model that comes with a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and the high end Fender audio system you’ll have to hand over $28,315 to your local VW dealership.

So is it a sedan version of VW’s hot hatch Golf GTI? Watch the first drive video review below to find out.
