At the 2018 SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV, Mopar unveiled their plans to release a 1,000 horsepower 426 cu-in crate motor dubbed the “Hellephant”. 4/26 is Hemi Day, and Mopar just released even more information about this crazy off-the-shelf engine, including pricing. Plus, pre-orders have officially opened, meaning you can reserve a Hellephant of your very own.
Unreal Numbers
Let’s recap the specs on this engine. The Hellephant is a 426 cu-in supercharged V8 that makes an astonishing 1,000 horsepower and 950 lb-ft of torque. So, not only is this the most powerful crate engine that Mopar will sell you, it is the most powerful crate engine ever to be offered by an OEM.
All for $29,995
So, you could buy a well-equipped VW Golf GTI for the same amount of money as this stand alone engine. But, Mopar really intends this engine for people looking to make some crazy project builds. Fortunately, Mopar will sell you a number of parts to go along with your Hellephant.
The accompanying “Engine Kit”, which includes a number of plug-and-play parts to go along with the engine is going to cost $2,265. Like the engine, pre-orders are open for the engine kit as well. Some other optional add-ons include the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) Kit (P/N 77072492), A/C Expansion Kit (P/N 77072493), Exhaust Manifold Kit (P/N 77072462), Rear Sump Oil Pan Kit (P/N 77072450AB) and 45-degree Oil Filter (P/N 77072447).
