Infiniti Previews Klipsch Audio System for Its Upcoming QX80 At CES 2024

Bye-bye Bose - Unfortunately, we're still missing other technical specs for the upcoming QX80

The 2025 Infiniti QX80 will feature an optional Klipsch audio system – the first luxury SUV to do so.

Audiophiles rejoice: You’ll have another high-end option if you’re shopping premium luxury SUVs for the 2025 model year. Not to be outdone by the likes of Cadillac with its AKG audio setup, Lincoln’s Revel system or indeed Infiniti’s own previous choice of the Bose Performance series, the automaker announced Monday it would launch the next-generation QX80 with an available Klipsch Reference Premiere system. Before the actual production version arrives, though, we’re getting a closer look at this system by way of the QX Monograph concept, which first made the rounds at Monterey Car Week last year.

What does that actually entail? Klipsch will deck out the 2025 Infiniti QX80 with a 24-speaker setup, including 1-inch titanium tweeters, an 8-inch TriPower subwoofer and a 24-channel amplifier. The goal here is to create a “world-class” audio system, and by that Klipsch and Infiniti engineers alike ostensibly aim to create an “accurate” listening experience, on top of a powerful one. Ram debuted a Klipsch audio system for its revamped 2025 1500 trucks, available on the top-end “Tungsten” trim.

Infiniti says this partnership allowed them to develop other technologies that will debut in the new QX80, but details on those are coming in a few months — as are the all-important technical details, I suspect.

Beyond the premium audio setup, Infiniti did not have any meaty information to share on its upcoming flagship SUV. However, the general consensus is that Infiniti is cooking up a major overhaul for its full-size SUV. Not just in terms of looks, as we did at least get a glimpse at the large grille, slim lights and huge overall presence at Pebble Beach. The 2025 QX80 will also supposedly ditch its long-lived 5.6-liter V8 engine in favor of a more efficient twin-turbocharged V6. Other notable improvements include the usual refinements with any major update these days: More safety technology, a larger infotainment screen, over-the-air updates and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability, at least as optional equipment.

Some rumors suggest an all-electric variant is also in the works — there is an evolving market for three-row electric SUVs, thanks to the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Rivian R1S, among others — but it’s not likely we’ll see such a vehicle for the 2025 model year. If anything, Infiniti will probably launch a full EV on the back half of this decade, perhaps for the 2026 or later model year, if it happens with this QX80 at all.
