Originally scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2019, the Chinese-built Ford Focus Active crossover will not be heading to the United States as initially planned. Based on the new Ford Focus, the Ford Focus Active crossover would have been, other than the Ford Mustang, one of the last of Ford-built cars sold in the United States. Now, just the Ford Mustang will remain after 2020/21.

Ford points to tariffs as the main reason. “The impact to our future sales is expected to be marginal,” Kumar Galhotra, Ford’s president of North America, told reporters on a conference call Friday, according to Automotive News. The Focus Active was originally scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2019.” – – Automotive News

The current administration’s trade tariffs are pointed at as a major reason why Ford Motor Company is taking this drastic step.

“This is not us shrinking and reducing our size in the marketplace, it’s all about reallocating our resources into the marketplace where we can win,” Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s executive vice president of product development and purchasing” – – CNET.com

The United States’ new trade tariffs and business postering appear to be making many automakers (both domestic and overseas) nervous. Recent statements from Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, Toyota and BMW (to name a few) illustrate the impact of the Trump Administration’s new way of doing business.
