Acura brought a trio of NSX racecars to Pikes Peak: Watch the practice runs here [Video]

Practice sessions for the 100th annual Pikes Peak International Hill climb have been taking place this week. The race is the second oldest race in the country and takes place this Sunday, June 26th. The course is a one-way mad dash to the top that consists of 156 turns in just 12.4 miles of uphill climbing. It is a true test of vehicle and driver composure as there are no guardrails between the mountain edge and the ground below. The end of the race at the summit sits 14,110 feet above sea level. This year Acura is bringing three NSXs to the race to find out what they can do.

The first is a slightly modified NSX that’s competing in the Time Attack 2 Production Class. This class is for production vehicles that are only slightly modified.

The second NSX is a highly modified NSX that will be in the Time Attack 1 Class reserved for production vehicles that are modified specifically for race purposes.

The third NSX is the all-electric EV Concept powered by four separate motors. It will be competing in the Electric Modified Class. During an interview with a Honda Project Leader for the vehicle we were told that although the power ratings of the motors could not be disclosed, the chance of an all-electric NSX one day making it into production is “not zero.” That would be an interesting car but better not hold your breath.
