We all expected to see the new Buick Envision crossover at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, but we just caught wind of a surprise vehicle that will debut as well. They did this last year too. Duncan Aldred, U.S. Vice president of Buick, said: “We have a very special program, and we had a surprise last year, so we’ll see if we can do something this year as well.” via The Detroit News.
Curious.
Unfortunately, that’s where the trail gets cold. There are no details, hints or rumors of what this second Buick could be.
With that being said, there are quite a few possibilities out there. Remember, Buick is bringing vehicles to North America from overseas and it’s proven to be a popular idea. There’s a huge pool of European vehicles that could be added to Buick’s ranks. Another possibility could be substantial updates to their current lineup as well.
These possibilities include:
- Updated Buick Regal
- A two door Buick Regal
- Buick Regal wagon (the name ‘Tourx’ was recently trademarked)
- A tiny Buick based on the Opel Atom
- A replacement for the Buick Verano – possibly an Opel Astra Notchback
Sure, this is just speculation, but this speculation is based on a bit of snooping and reading tea leaves. Hopefully, we’ll have more on this phantom Buick before the 2016 NAIAS.
