The Big Three of midsize sedans – the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima and Honda Accord – continue to lead sales numbers for July.
The Accord sold slightly more for the month, followed by the Altima and the Camry. Yearly sales are the reverse, with the Camry holding a nearly unbeatable edge over the Altima and Camry.
All three sold nearly identical numbers, with only about 1,000 units separating the Accord from the Camry.
Despite leading all others, the Accord’s sales are actually slightly down from July 2014, 1.6 percent lower to be exact. For the year, the Accord is down 13.7 percent from this time in 2014.
The Altima continues to see improvements. Sales are up 27 percent for the month and 1.4 percent for the year. The Camry, however, dropped both monthly and yearly – 3.6 percent for the month and 3.1 percent for the year – but its 40,000-unit lead over the Altima for the year will almost guarantee a year end sales victory unless something extreme happens in the second half of the year.
The Ford Fusion continues to be the best of the rest, posting solid numbers and a 4.9 percent gain for the month, with a 5.9 percent gain for the year. Its position – well below the Accord but well above the Chrysler 200 – means the Fusion will most likely be in a lonely fourth place for the rest of the year.
Speaking of the 200, it continues its stellar climb over 2014. Sales are up 85 percent over July 2014, and an astounding 128 percent for the year, putting it ahead of other strong sellers like the Hyundai Sonata and the Chevrolet Malibu.
