Everyone has a favorite sports car, but have you ever wondered how your favorite ranks against the rest of America? According to Google search results, there are some very clear winners that we’re all looking to read more about, and likely drool over, when we’re busy goofing around at work and surfing the internet.
#5 Porsche 911
You kind of figured there had to be a German car on this list, and the Porsche 911 is it, sitting in 5th place. Although the Porsche 911 GT3 had a bit of a rocky start this year with those pesky engine fires, Porsche still comes out tops with buyers according to J.D. Powers and if Richard Hammond of Top Gear loves it, then it can’t be all bad.
#4 Nissan GT-R
Nissan earns a spot on our most searched for sports car list with the Nissan GT-R which you wouldn’t be amiss calling a supercar. Then there’s the Nissan GT-R Nismo, which posted a 7:08.679 lap time at Nürburgring. Fast doesn’t even begin to cover it.
#3 Chevy Corvette
You knew the Corvette would be on this list of top sports cars somewhere, it was just a matter of how close it would be to the top. The Chevy Corvette takes the number three spot with what has been a very busy year for the ‘Vette. There was bad news with the sinkhole that swallowed some classic Corvettes but there was also very good news with Corvette Z06 debuting at the New York Auto Show. There’s also the slick Corvette Stingray that’s enough to make your hear race just looking at pictures.
#2 Chevy Camaro
Chevrolet scores another spot on the list with the Chevy Camaro at number two in search popularity. Looks like Americans have a thing for American sports cars. The Camaro made big news with the $75,000 Camaro Z/28 and rumors are swirling about how the sixth-generation of the Camaro will look. Wonder if some of this car’s popularity had anything to do with Bumblebee hitting the big screen in Transformers this summer?
#1 Ford Mustang
It shouldn’t be any surprise that the Ford Mustang is at the top of the list. Not only is it the most commonly searched sports car in America, it’s the most commonly searched car. Period. The end. The Mustang is in its 50th year and although Ford has taken the wraps off to show us how it’ll look, we’re all still waiting for the details. We got some inside info on the Mustang EcoBoost but we’d still like to know when the Mustang Shelby GT500 is going to make an appearance.
