Your Opinion: If You Could Run A Car Company For The Year

The BMW i3 Concept is going to be a reality soon — maybe as soon as the end of this year.

Your Opinion: If You Could Run A Car Company For The Year…

The year 2012 is behind us. As we look down the 2013 road, the automotive industry is full of great technology which makes cars smarter and more efficient. As a journalist, I’ve been to countless new model launch events around the country this past year, where manufacturers promoted their latest offering to the consuming public. Sometimes their creations are a hit — and others a huge miss. If you’re reading this article, chances are you’re not a journalist, but rather one of millions of automotive enthusiasts who loves keeping up with the latest in automotove news and imagery — also known as car porn to the serious motor head.

That said, here’s the big question:

If you could take the reigns of your favorite automotive manufacture for the full year of 2013, what changes would you make? For example, if you were going to take over GM, would you make their interior plastics not feel so, well, plasticky? Or perhaps, would you add nitrous as a stock feature to all Corvette trims?

Me, what would I do? I’d take over any American manufacturer  (GM or Ford will do) and mandate that all cars in the lineup utilize a carbon fiber body to increase MPG efficiency. Yes, I know BMW is already on the path to this process with the i3 and i8 cars, but that’s a German company, and they are only doing the mass-produced carbon fiber thing with their “i” lineup. I figure it would help the American economy to be the first company to mass produce their full lineup in space age material. With the mass production volumes that a Ford or GM pumps out, the cost to manufacture could drop significantly.

But enough about my economic plan to revive the debt-striken heart of America. What would you do? Give us your car changing plan in the comment section below!
