Five reasons why the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch 4×4 Diesel is one of the biggest, baddest pickup trucks built

Ford has dropped a lot of time and money into their truck program. The proof is apparent in most of their rigs, other than the Ford Ranger. Many journalists are no longer allowed to properly sample their vehicles, so we must seek them out. I had to find the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel at an event in Southern California. There, I spent the better half of a day driving one. What a pain in the neck.

Still, if you are looking at one of the biggest, baddest pickup trucks built – you simply must pay attention to Ford. That’s right, despite slighting many underlings in the journalistic community – I must admit, Ford builds great machines and the 2011 F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel is proof of that.

Here are 5 reasons why the new Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel is a contender:

5. “Are-you-kidding-me?” power: 400 horsepower @ 2800 RPM and 800 lbs-feet of torque @ 1600 RPM from Ford’s new 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V-8. It’s a Ford-built engine with a completely unique configuration. For one thing, the turbocharger is located where a blower would usually go.

It’s a tight package that looks to take on the best the competition has to offer. This is all hooked up to an all new, smooth shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel has all of this outstanding potential while still being an easy truck to drive on a commute.

4. “Are-you-kidding-me?” capability: the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel can tow up to 14,000 pounds from the bumper or 15,700 via a kingpin in the bed (fifth wheel trailers and whatnot).

3. “Are-you-kidding-me?” price: Prices start at about $58,000 while the price for a fully loaded 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel is around $64,000. That’s a LOT of cabbage for a truck.

2. “Are-you-kidding-me?” interior: One of the nicest interiors I’ve felt. That’s right – felt. The tactile sensations of that amazing leather form the King Ranch trim is worth the thousands of extra buckaroos it costs. It’s thick, soft and definitely reminds the occupants of a horse’s saddle. The 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel has the nicest interior out there. The rest of the Super Duty Fords lose out to the beefy Rams for interior quality.

1. “Are-you-kidding-me?” performance and drivability: One thing you have to remember about the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel is that it is capable of carrying three tons and it weighs, with chunky driver (me) four tons. So, when you see its 0 to 60 time mph advertised at 7.9 seconds – remember how massive this truck is and stare in awe. It handles nice for a beast too.

Granted, there is no steering feel – but what were you expecting? It dutifully goes where pointed and is fairly flat on medium speed corners. Over railroad tracks and potholes, the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel chatters quite a bit. I bet if you toss a ton in the back, it will be nice and smooth.

I can’t say for certain if the 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab 4×4 Diesel is the best in class. Ford won’t let me fully evaluate one – or any of their trucks. I will say it’s a hell of a competitor with a ton of potential.
