First Look video 2010 Hyundai Coupe 3.8: a sports car scalpel or sledgehammer

Here’s a question that we’re still pondering.

Is the 2010 Hyundai Coupe 3.8 (ours tester is the all out track version) the poor man’s Nissan 370Z, BMW 128i and Mazda RX-8, or is it the rich man’s Mustang, Camaro and Challenger?

Because at just over 30K the 2010 Hyundai Coupe 3.8 falls somewhere between the six cars.

What we know for sure is that the Coupe is a surprisingly good sports car from a car company and country with little to no herritage in building and racing sports cars.

Hyundai took a big swing and surspising connected with a strong effort for a newbie sports car manufacturer. It didn’t hit it out of the ball park but, 2010 Hyundai Coupe 3.8 certainly makes it to third base.

What holds the car back from a homerun is somewhat lackluster power (0-60 mph in about 5.9 seconds) and a harsh and jumpy highway ride.

Yes, we know that our test car is the track version, but doesn’t mean it should beat you up on the highway on the way to the track.

Check out this first look video as we take the car up the twisties up Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder, Colorado.
