The Lincoln Continental will make its return to the main stage at the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. When we first saw the concept in New York, it created quite a buzz, and the company made it clear this car had a future. Thankfully, the production version shown here hasn’t changed much from what we saw in New York.
There will be no fewer than three engine choices in the new Continental, including a new 3.0L turbo V6 exclusive to Lincoln… but let’s come back to that later. Besides the 3.0L turbo, there will be two other V6 engines available, a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter and a turbocharged 2.7-liter. Exact power figures for these engines when they sit in the Continental is still unannounced at the time of this writing, but we hope to get the details and put them in an Everything You Ever Wanted to Know video soon.
We do know, however, that these engines will be available in FWD or AWD versions of the car. Now for the good stuff… the top choice 3.0L turbo will make 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. If this is what you end up getting, remember to thank Lincoln for making the numbers so easy to remember. The 3.0-liter will only be paired with AWD.
Four flavors of the Continental – as in other Lincolns – will be offered: Premier, Select, Reserve, and Black Label. We suspect the boys (and gals) at Lincoln may have been on a whiskey kick when coming up with those names, but hey, they still sound cool. The typical driver aids will be found in the new Lincoln: adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning with auto braking, automated parking (both parallel and perpendicular), a 360-degree camera, and pedestrian detection. Connectivity will be provided by the Ford Sync 3 with Android Auto / Apple CarPlay capability.
