How much power does the Shelby GT350 Mustang V8 make? The answer is – 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque from the naturally aspirated 5.2L flat-plane crank V8. Actually, the engine displacement is measured at 5,163 cc. While many sports cars are relying on forced induction to make big power, Ford’s approach says that a good-olde V8 with fancy materials and internals is the ticket for a unique high-performance machine.
It’s worth noting that the engine makes more than 100 horsepower per liter. This is an impressive number for any naturally aspirated engine. Maximum power comes in at a high 7,500 rpm mark. While all the torque is available at 4,750 rpm. Ford also points out that 90% of maximum torque is available between 3,450 – 7,000 rpm.
The flat-plane crank orientation, the aluminum engine block, and a host of other light-weight features allow the engine to rev to a 8,250 rpm redline. This is the highest revving V8 engine in Ford’s entire history.
