Caught! Looks Like the 2026 Honda Passport Is Hitting the Colorado Trails Before We’re Supposed to See It

Toyota's no a roll with its off-road SUVs, and it's scaling down for this next launch

Feast your eyes on this! This may just be the first public sighting of the upcoming next-generation 2026 Honda Passport. This is an all-new vehicle that we expect to see on sale in the United States within the next year, though we should see an official reveal long before that, as Honda teased it back in July.

This upcoming vehicle is still shrouded in mystery. Apart from the single teaser and Honda’s announcement that it is coming, we do not know many technical details at this point. The manufacturer clearly aims to move the SUV away from its current identity, as effectively a smaller version of the three-row Pilot. The current Passport has a different fascia both front and rear and only five seats, but the two vehicles share the same platform and powertrain.

Honda first announced a new Passport as part of a business strategy breakdown in January 2024, wherein it also outlined a new small Acura crossover (the ADX) and confirmed more details for the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid, which went on sale in July.

This camouflaged prototype was spotted on an off-road trail in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. We have had several very hot days recently, and this prototype pulled up some of its front-end camouflage to allow as much cooling as possible. This being said – this front grille is mostly filled in with plastic. However, there may be one or more radiators hiding behind this grille.

What could power this new 2026 Honda Passport? Well, the most straightforward answer may be for Honda to retain the same 3.5-liter V6 as a Pilot. However, with the design changes, it could also opt for a smaller (perhaps hybridized) powertrain, such as the two-motor hybrid system used in the CR-V, Accord and Civic. A turbocharged engine, even as an option, also is not out of the question at the moment.
