VW’s entry-level Taos SUV is getting a refresh, which we’ll see in less than 24 hours.
Nearly four years ago, Volkswagen debuted a new, smaller and more affordable SUV to the U.S. market for the 2022 model year. Now, we’re getting a glimpse of what’s to come with the Taos, before the updated model debuts to the public September 12 at 9 AM Eastern.
At the moment, VW hasn’t disclosed too much about the revamped Taos, other than it’s hitting dealerships before the end of this year. From first glance, though, it looks like a pretty standard facelift: New headlights with H-shaped daytime running lights, a light bar across the upper portion of the grille (rather than straight through the middle), and we’ll likely see some new taillights and a revised rear bumper fascia along with the front-end changes.
In order to keep around the mid-$20,000 price tag it currently starts at, the 2025 Volkswagen Taos will likely carry on with the same 1.5-liter engine the current model uses. Mated up to either an 8-speed automatic in FWD models or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox with AWD, the 158-horsepower 1.5-liter mill manages daily driver duty just fine, even if it’s not as strong as some of its rivals in the segment.
We haven’t gotten a look inside, but the 2025 Volkswagen Taos will likely get some more features for its infotainment system, similar to the new Jetta. The company’s Digital Cockpit Pro already comes on the top-spec SEL model, so I’d expect the updated version to retain a similar level of equipment at the top end of the trim stack. VW’s been filtering some features into the mid-range SE if not lower down, though, so this new Taos may offer more bang for the buck.
Speaking of bucks, it’s also unlikely the 2025 Volkswagen Taos will move much from its current price band. Pricing may increase by a few hundred dollars across the range, putting the starting MSRP closer to the $26,000 mark. At the upper end, the SEL model will likely round out the lineup just above $35,000.
