Nissan's compact sedan holds steady in a chaotic auto market.

Peruse the comments of almost every new car or truck review we do, and one undeniable theme punches you in the face: “Cars and trucks are too f****! expensive today!” And they’re not wrong Prices increased more than 20-30 percent since 2021 according to a Texas A&M paper. To that end, let me introduce the humble 2025 Nissan Sentra S and its starting price of $21,590 (plus a $1,140 destination charge). That’s a mere $410 more than last year’s model, a measly 1.9% increase. Granted there are no major changes to the Sentra from ’04 but it’s nice to see a decently outfitted, right-sized transportation vehicle with pricing that’s steady and stable. And it may be the last Nissan standing in a few years if this report holds true. We’ll take that as a testament that the Sentra is really one of the few remaining right-sized cars left on the road.

Nissan Sentra – Stalwart of “It’ll Get You There”

The ’25 Sentra S comes standard with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four cylinder engine good for a merely adequate 149 hp and 146 lb-ft. torque. A CVT delivers power the front-wheel drive car. That set-up may not be fast (OK, it’s not fast at all), but it’s certainly efficient, with an EPA rating of 30 mpg city/40 mpg highway/34 mpg combined. So cheap to buy, cheap to operate. Nice!

And that’s about it for the base S model.

Cruise control requires an upgrade to the SV model, which as our colleague André can attest, is one feature you don’t want to live without here in the Rocky Mountain Region. The SV with its cruise control will run you an additional $700 ($22,290), but it adds 16-inch alloy wheels, SiriusXM radio, and two more USB ports.

At the top of the Sentra world, the Sentra SR runs $24,590 and upgrades the the wheels to 18 inchers, adds a rear spoiler, LED headlights, heated front seats, two-tone paint options. The SR Premium package gets you a sliding moonroof, 8-speaker Bose sound system, and heated steering wheel.
