The refreshed 2024 Hyundai Sonata brings a few major changes to the lineup — including the baseline price.

For this new model year, Hyundai certainly makes a bold styling statement as it brings its midsize sedan in line with other revamped models like the new Kona crossover. Now, the new Sonata will make its way to dealers in the coming weeks, and the automaker officially announced how much each version will cost, from the base SEL to the Sonata Hybrid and the performance-focused N Line.

If you’re well versed in Hyundai trim language, you might have noticed I omitted “SE” there. As has been the way with several new cars over the past couple years, Hyundai decided to drop the entry-level SE, in essence raising the baseline MSRP by $2,050. The front-wheel drive Sonata SEL is the new entry point, then, and it will set you back $28,615 including the company’s $1,115 destination fee. While that is a bummer if you want the cheapest car possible, it is worth noting the 2024 SEL’s price actually gets a slight shave from last year, so the apples-to-apples price is actually $475 lower than before (at least at time of writing).

For just a shade under $29K, you get 17-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control and heated seats as standard equipment. The list of standard safety equipment is as long as you’d expect, too, offering up automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams and rear cross-traffic alert.

The real ace up Hyundai’s sleeve with this updated Sonata is the inclusion of all-wheel drive, which allows it to compete against the Subaru Legacy and Nissan Altima, as well as the Toyota Camry. Adding AWD to your new Sonata will bump the price up by $1,500, meaning the most affordable version will set you back $30,115. In other words, it’s about $1,000 more than Toyota or Nissan and $4,000 more than the Subaru.

What about the Hybrid and N Line?

There’s another trim at the entry-level end called the SEL Convenience, adding in more features for a starting price of $31,665 (for the FWD model). All non-hybrid versions of the 2024 Hyundai Sonata get the same 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine as before, putting out 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

For about the same price as the SEL Convenience ($31,915), you can instead get the Hybrid SEL. That model gets 192 horsepower sending power to the front wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission, naturally accompanied by an electric motor. There’s a more luxurious Limited version of the Hybrid model, as well, for $38,315.

At the top end of the range, the 2024 Hyundai Sonata still includes the performance-oriented N Line for $36,065. That bumps up the powertrain to the 2.5-liter turbocharged mill, kicking out 290 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

If you’re looking to snag one of the gas-powered Sonatas, you’ll be able to find them at dealers later this month. The Hybrid versions aren’t far behind, but they won’t hit showrooms until a bit later, in early 2024.
