Go fast and be efficient.

Toyota is taking the popular RAV4 to the next level with the new Prime plug-in electric hybrid model. The 2021 RAV4 Prime will have a total of 302 horsepower, be able to accelerate 0-60 MPH in about 5.8 seconds, and have a total electric driving range of 39 miles. That’s one potent combination.

The current RAV4 is already one of the best-selling crossovers in the United States, and this plug-in electric hybrid model aims to continue the success. The Prime plug-in will join the rest of the RAV4 lineup (including the regular RAV4 Hybrid) in the summer of 2020.

The RAV4 Prime uses a 2.5-liter gasoline engine that makes 176 hp and 168 lb-ft of torque. This is a little more torque than the version of this engine in the RAV4 Hybrid. Once you add electric power into the mix – the total output goes up to an impressive 302 horsepower. This is enough to make the 2021 RAV4 Prime quicker than the fast V6-powered RAV4 of the past.

The Prime’s efficiency estimate sits at 90 MPGe. This is another impressive number. The Prime should have an all-electric driving range of about 39 miles, which is more than most of the competition. It’s also more than the electric range of the Prius Prime, which is 25 miles.

Pricing and more details will be available closer to the 2021 RAV4 Prime’s on sale date.
