The annual Pirelli calendar has been a staple for more than 50 years.
When you think about Pirelli, you likely think “tires” more than “provocatively produced calendars”. Nevertheless, the 2019 calendar is here to take a bite out of your productivity today. The Pirelli Calendar combines one of the world’s best photographers with famous models and figures. The end result is usually a visually stunning collection of photos, and this year is no different. For the 2019 Pirelli Calendar, the Italian tire manufacturer hired Scottish photographer Albert Watson.
Watson’s photography portfolio covers a wide range of genres and styles. He shot the Hollywood posters for “Kill Bill” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.” However, for the 2019 Pirelli Calendar, the theme (and title) of Watson’s photography was “Dreaming”. The pictures are certainly provocative, and some are a bit risqué. We won’t post all the photos here, but you can find more shots on Pirelli’s official calendar website.
Watson recounts his experience producing the calendar. “I wanted to do it in a way that was different from other photographers, and I wondered what the best way would be. In the end, I looked for pictures that were of beautiful quality, with depth to them, and had some kind of narrative.” To that end, the calendar includes models like Gigi Hadid, Julia Garner, Misty Copeland and Laetitia Casta.
