This Hyundai, if driven normally, should have around 70,000 miles.
Instead, this 2013 Hyundai Elantra has many, many more miles than that. In fact, Farrah Haines has driven her Elantra over 1 million miles. She’s an auto parts delivery driver from Kansas, and her job has taken her far and wide, vastly outpacing the 14,000 miles each year the rest of us normally drive.
It’s definitely not everyday that someone drives the same car over 1 million miles. Not only that, but this car is still on its original engine. Even Hyundai was surprised by the achievement, as product engineers went over all the records to verify the odometer reading. They looked at engine casting numbers, service records, the wiring harness and the motor mounts. Engineers also checked the car’s VIN report and Haines’ mileage record for her two jobs.
In driving approximately 200,000 miles each year, Haines has basically driven this car around the earth over forty times at the equator. To mark the occasion, Hyundai even created a special “1 Million Mile” emblem to add in front of her odometer. Since her odometer reset at 999,999 miles, now Haines has a reminder of her achievement. What’s more, Hyundai made the emblem an OEM part, so all Hyundai owners who drive their cars over one million miles can get it. Then, to top things off, they gave her a brand new 2019 Elantra.
“Reaching one million miles with the original powertrain in just five years is an extremely rare and incredible achievement,” said Hyundai America’s Chief Marketing Officer Dean Evans. To Farrah Haines, however, it’s another step to the next milestone. “I love to drive and have made a successful career out of it…While it feels a bit like starting over, this gives me the opportunity to hit a million-five!”
Another Million+ Milestone
