2019 Acura MDX Adds A-Spec Package, Starts from $45,295 [News]

Acura’s midsize crossover gets the A-Spec treatment, in line with the recently redesigned RDX.

When it comes to modern crossover, an aggressive, sporty appearance is becoming just as important as practicality. Case in point, the 2019 Acura MDX. Along with an updated interior, including Desert Olive Ash wood trim and standard 4-way power lumbar seats, Acura also added an A-Spec variant to this year’s model. Acura’s midsize crossover joins its smaller RDX cousin, which was also just redesigned with the A-Spec package. With the updates, the 2019 Acura RDX starts at $45,295 including a $995 destination charge – $100 more than the 2018 model.

The A-Spec package is strictly an appearance package. With 20-inch Shark Grey aluminum wheels, 265/45 tires, the car has a wider stance than standard. Acura also fitted a new front fascia, larger diameter exhaust finishers and gloss-black and dark chrome trim on the headlights, grille, window surrounds and tailgate spoiler. On the inside, the A-Spec package gets you red or black leather seats with Alcantara inserts, for a start. You also get more gloss-black trim, a thicker steering wheel and A-Spec door sill plates.

Performance-wise, the 2019 Acura MDX is the same as the 2018 model. There’s still a 3.5-liter VTEC V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. That comes in either front-wheel drive, or buyers can opt for Acura’s SH-AWD system.

Like this year’s model, the 2019 Acura MDX retains its nine-speed automatic transmission. However, the transmission is tuned to give smoother, more fluid acceleration by starting in second gear. Depending on which trim level you chose, the 2019 Acura MDX tops off around $61,045. Prices on the lower end overlap a bit with the 2019 Honda Pilot – the MDX’s mainstream cousin – which was also just launched.
