Sebastian Vettel already has the 2013 driver’s World Championship, but he is not relaxing for the Austin Texas 2013 USGP round of Formula 1 championship. In typical, Vettel fashion, he sneaked the pole position from his teammate, Mark Webber, at the very last moment of today’s Q3 qualifying session.
All the drivers complained about the strong winds around Circuit of the Americas racetrack in Austin Texas. However, nothing could stop the RedBull teammates from gapping the field by 0.7 seconds. Seven tenths is a long time in Formula 1 terms. Romain Grosjean of Lotus and Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber came in third and fourth and ahead of other heavy hitters from Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren.
Sergio Perez, a fan favorite here in Austin TX, had a very showing after qualifying seventh. Sergio’s teammate, Jenson Button, struggled and came in thirteenth. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari got the sixth grid spot for Sunday’s race and wants a good showing to maintain his second spot in World Championship standings, going into the last race in Brazil at the end of the month.
