If You’re a Cop In Dubai You Can Drive a $400,000 Lamborghini Aventador

I’d imagine that half the world’s police force is currently looking to transfer to the city of Dubai so they can drive around in a $400,000 Lamborghini Aventador while they’re on the job. According to Dubai’s Deputy Police Chief, the shiny new green and white sports cars are a perfect match to Dubai’s upscale image and was one of the reasons for their purchase.

The plan is for officers to drive the Lamborghini Aventadors primarily at tourist sites. Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina said that not only will it promote the country’s reputation to visitors, but it will reinforce the idea that the police are on the job and keeping the city safe and secure.

Keeping people safe, especially on the roads of Dubai, has proven a bit of a challenge as injuries and deaths due to excessive speeding are a large problem. Official figures have put last year’s road deaths at 122 with an additional 2,161 reported injuries.

Speed is a huge factor in many of these accidents with police figures for March showing that about 15% of traffic fines every day are issued for speeds in excess of 130 mph. This would make the Lamorghini Aventador a useful and very welcome addition to the police fleet.

The car boasts a V12 engine, a maximum speed of 217 mph and can accelerate from 0-60mph in just 2.9 seconds. Although it would seem that this would be the perfect vehicle for cracking down on the rampant racing that happens on the city’s desert roadways, it’ll likely stay in town where they can show it off to visitors.

Expect to see the Lamborghini Aventador on the streets around the Burj Khalifa tower which is the world’s tallest building, the Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, and around the Jumeirah Beach Residence, a popular waterfront development with loads of high end shops and restaurants.
