Qoros introduces its production-read Qoros 3 Sedan to the world at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. This is the vehicle that will be sold throughout Asia and Europe. Who knows, it may find its way to the United States too. This is my third post regarding Qoros and I am still intrigued about this unique automaker.

I’ve posted reports regarding Qoros’ fascinating Qoros 3 Cross Hybrid Concept that you can read (here).

The Qoros 3 Sedan is the first international offering by Qoros as they have built other vehicles for local consumption. Rather than source the research, design and development in-house, Qoros has elected to bring in talent from other big names in the automotive world.

“To be produced in a new assembly plant in Changshu, China, the new range of Qoros models is being designed and engineered by an international team of experienced specialists and new, young automotive talent, and has been developed with the support of internationally-renowned suppliers such as Magna Steyr, TRW, Continental, Bosch, Getrag, Benteler, Lear, Microsoft, Harman, Neusoft-Alpine and Iconmobile.” – – Qoros Media

Looks go a long way for me and Qoros has nailed an overall design that looks like a cross between Audi, a hint of Passat and some of KIA’s design language without looking like a copy (often, that’s the case with Chinese cars). The overhangs are short, the silhouette is sleek and the overall design is clean. I like the complexity of the front end too. My only criticism is the over-sized “Q” emblem, which is a bit too proud.

Currently, two engines and two transmissions will be available with a third engine option, a diesel, begin developed soon. “Two efficient four-cylinder 1.6-litre gasoline engines will be available at the launch of the Qoros 3 Sedan in China, both of which feature VVT (variable valve timing).  The naturally-aspirated unit delivers an output of 93 kW (126 bhp) and 155 Nm maximum torque.  The turbocharged version offers 115 kW (156 bhp) and 210 Nm maximum torque.  Both engines are combined with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with an optional six-speed dual clutch transmission available for both.  A stop-start system will be available from launch.

With the support of AVL, Qoros is also developing a three-cylinder 1.2-litre turbocharged engine and an all-new four-cylinder 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, both with GDI (gasoline direct injection).” – – Qoros Media

Price? Well, Qoros has yet to announce it, but I suspect it will run about the same price as a Volkswagen Jetta. Currently, VW Jettas base around £16,135. I think the Qoros will be pretty close to the Jetta’s price.

Time will tell us if the Qoros Automaker can get a foothold in Europe. If things go well, perhaps we’ll see them attempt to cross the pond.

In the meantime, check out this fun KIA clip from the 2013 Chicago Auto Show!

Man, I’m hoping to find a way to test one of the babies. I think Qoros will build some mighty interesting rides.
