Motorsports: Monster Tajima shows off AWD Toyota Sport Super GT Racer

It looks mighty fast, and looks stock from this angle.

Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima is a legend of rally racing.  He is especially known for his fearless attack of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and countless wins at this event.  He is also a very busy business man as he works on design of various race cars as well as his own hill climb specials.  Monster recently unveiled this very special AWD Toyota Sport Super GT race car.  It’s wearing body panels that resemble the Toyota GT 86, but when you look more carefully – it’s all custom all wheel drive race car underneath.

It somewhat resembles Monster’s own Suzuki SX4 Hill Climb special, which Nobuhiro-san used to break the 10 minute barrier at Pikes Peak.  The new Sport Super GT even uses the same sponsorship from GoPro.  You might think that this is Monster’s ride this year for the 2013 Pikes Peak.  That’s what I immediately thought.  Well, it may not be the case.  PPIHC website published the list of 2013 competitors and Monster is listed under the Electric division with Tajima Motor E-Runner.  The E-Runner is the car Monster unsuccessfully used for last year’s race, and the E-Runner uses a totally different aerodynamics package than this Sport Super GT.  It’s not clear if Monster is planning to use this Toyota GT 86 based race car or last year’s car for the 2013 race.  Perhaps, the Sport Super GT is powered by electricity?

We will keep a watch on this subject.  In the meantime, enjoy TFLcar video coverage of the 2012 Pike Peak International Hill Climb:
