The big news for the rest of the world is a new four-banger.
The 2014 BMW Z4 sDrive 1.8i (which is not coming to the U.S.) has a 154 horsepower 2-liter that makes 177 lbs-feet of torque and comes hooked up to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It’s an entry level Z4 which will have adequate power at best. On the plus side, this baby will get over 34 mpg.
We get the 2-liter that makes 240 hp along with the 300 and 335 hp 3-liter, six-cylinder engines – thank god.
We will have the same choices in transmissions and word of a Z4M with a twin-turbo V8 may be confirmed, or denied when this 2014 BMW Z4 debuts at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.
It may be a sleek and sophisticated driver’s machine, but, even a neanderthal like me truly appreciated its driver-centric setup. I drove the 2010 Z4 and was truly impressed. It felt like the Mazda MX5’s wealthier cousin – and that’s a compliment. This new model is mostly about trim and goodies which means the winning recipe is the same.
