Insider video report: How Ford engineers design and test cars virtually

IMG_1579

Long before a car ever hits the street Ford engineers have spent hours testing the cars ergonomics and the car's interior design. They answer such important questions as how will the driver interact with all of the cars controls, and how big is the car's blind spot in moving traffic.

How do they do it?

They do it virtually virtually of course.

All you need is several really big computers, a sled designed to simulate a car, a virtual cave, IR-visible balls glued to some gloved, 3D glasses, head-mounted virtual reality display, and of course a few million dollars

Take a insiders peek into how Ford does it as TFLcar.com visits Ford Dearborn, Michigan's headquarters and checks out the CAVE and the PVM (Programmable Vehicle Models).
